Our Staff Steve Trippe, President and Executive Director Steve Trippe is a thirty-plus year veteran in youthwork, beginning his career as a direct service provider working in the Mission District of San Francisco. He is currently President and Executive Director of New Ways to Work, where he has worked for the past 23 years. New Ways is a nationally recognized technical assistance organization focused on supporting communities in building comprehensive local youth-serving systems, and improving practice in those organizations that serve young people. New Ways helps communities work together to prepare youth for success. Currently Steve serves on California’s National Governors Association “Home Team” on Foster Youth Transition and co-chairs its employment sub-committee. He also serves on the Executive Steering Committee of the Youth Policy Action Center, and is a member of California’s Youth Vision Team. He is a newly appointed Board Member of the National Foster Care Coalition, a member of the National Mentoring Partnership and the National Child Labor Council, and past chair of the National Youth Employment Coalition. He also served as the president of the Monte Rio Union School District and is a former member of the National School-to-Work Advisory Council. He has been involved with the development of youth employment, youth development, and education policy and implementation on the national, state and local levels. His background includes serving as Senior Consultant to the Industry Education Council of California and extensive direct service experience with the CYO of the Bay Area, the San Francisco Art Commission, and as a music teacher in the public schools.

Charlene was the Associate Director for a multi-service Brenda Barry has over 18 years' experience in workforce development and education reform, particularly with developing connections between education and business entities. Brenda is currently managing the Intermediary Network (INet) and the Sonoma County Work-Ready Certification program for New Ways. In addition, Brenda runs a national consulting firm specializing in education reform, workforce preparation, and economic development. Previously, Brenda served as Executive Director of LEED-Sacramento (Linking Education & Economic Development), a nonprofit organization managing regional workforce preparation and development. Brenda has also served on the California School-to-Career Governor's Task Force, Educational Issues & Practices Committee; Far West States Skill Standards Consortium, Executive Committee; and the California Association of Leaders for Career Preparation Board. She was a member of the National Employer Leadership Council.Akili Moses Israel , Director, Education Initiatives Akili Moses Israel has been dedicated to educational improvement since her start working with San Francisco Bay Area schools in 1995. She has worked in several organizations committed to systemic school district improvement. Previously, Akili worked for LEED-Sacramento (Linking Education & Economic Development), a nonprofit organization managing regional workforce preparation and development in various roles including acting CEO and Director of Educational Development. Her work primarily focused on providing technical assistance to high schools and districts to create educational systems and environments that work to increase educational, emotional and social success for all young people. Prior to her work with LEED, she served in various capacities to support education organizations in their efforts to achieve educational excellence including School Improvement Facilitator, School Coach, External Evaluator, Education Researcher and Director of School Redesign. Her more recent work included supporting school conversations to smaller learning communities and developing small autonomous schools created to improved success for young people to be prepared for life after high school. In her role as Director, Education Initiatives for New Ways , Akili is managing the Diploma Plus expansion in California , as well as its other education endeavors. Gloria Pineda , School Coach/Educational Specialist Gloria M. Pineda is the Education Program Specialist/School Coach at New Ways to Work. Her work focuses predominantly on professional development that supports performance-based instruction, curriculum design, and culturally responsive pedagogy for the Diploma Plus Initiative. In addition, Ms. Pineda is responsible for creating and maintaining curriculum and training documents and manuals for the California Diploma Plus Network. Prior to working at New Ways to Work, Ms. Pineda served as the Diploma Plus New England Network Manger for the Commonwealth Corporation. As the New England Manger, she managed the overall implementation of Diploma Plus Model and served as liaison between Center Youth Development Education staff and other regional and network partners. Before
joining Commonwealth Corporation, Gloria M. Pineda was a GEAR UP
(Gaining Early Awareness and Readiness for Undergraduate Programs)
Program Coordinator and Interim Counseling Coordinator for Salem
State College’s Upward Bound Program. In
these two capacities, she designed and managed outreach programs
to increase post-secondary awareness and academic access for students
from various socio-economic backgrounds, including first generation
students. Ms. Pineda has eleven years of experience in the education
field as a former classroom teacher and manger. Ms. Pineda received
her Bachelors degree from the University of Massachusetts at Dartmouth
and has a Masters Degree in Education from Cambridge College.
