Foster Youth Pathways to Employment Initiative

• Uncovering and creating better awareness of and access to existing career development and employment opportunities;
• Connecting to Federal efforts including Economic Stimulus efforts (e.g. green jobs and summer jobs), Workforce Investment Act programs, the Fostering Connections and Early Adoptions Act, and national youth employment and career-related programming;
• Codifying and expanding the practice of youth-led, youth-run transition centers;
• Creating local cross-system collaboratives focused on foster youth employment success; and
• The application of a continuum of experiences that lead to foster youth being experienced and work-ready with a clear career trajectory by the time they leave care.

Through the Pathways to Employment initiative, New Ways is leveraging its work with Youth Transition Action Teams and other communities around the country, and applying the strategies, approaches, and lessons learned to a national audience. We are seeking out new partners and practitioners in the child welfare, career development, and workforce development arenas who are struggling to improve child welfare outcomes and prepare foster youth for a successful transition to adulthood.
